The battle got even closer. Only 159 kilometers to go and just 3min29secs split the three main contestants to the victory in the Rally dos Sertões. The NWM/X Rally Team Ford Ranger 4x4 #316 won the stage in the hands of Cristian Baumgart/Beco Andreotti, only two seconds ahead of Toyotas Reinaldo Varela/Gustavo Gugelmin and 54secs over Mitsubishis Guilherme Spinelli/Youssef Haddad.
Today was the end of the marathon-stage, and the #316 duo counted on a risky strategy to get ahead of the competition. The gamble was all about team work. Cristian and Beco changed both right-side tyres in Parc-Fermè and Ford Ranger #303 of Marcos Baumgart/Kleber Cincea jumped the start into the radar zone, got past Spinelli/Haddad to get to the start of the stage and change the left-side wheels on the #316, leaving their teammates with four fresh tyres.
After the "pit-stop", Marcos and Kleber got back to their original starting position, which was fourth, right behind the Mitsubishi, and finishing the stage in the same place, 55 seconds off Spinelli.

"Many people were surprised with our strategy. Some were a little scared, too. But Marcos and I are brothers, we work to help each other, not to jeopardize other drivers race. Marcos and Kleber were really fast changing both left tyres, and this fresh rubber gave us a little bit of an edge. Im pretty happy with the Ford Rangers first win in Brazil, and I hope its the first of many. Now we have only one day left, with the three leaders all together. That will be interesting to see, and anybody can win this Sertões".

"It was the wisest decision, because we had that five-hour penalty, so our chances in the race are none. So we decided to help my brother, because it was the smartest thing to do. We are a team and a family, and he would do the same for me. That was our goal for today, and I am looking forward to get to the end tomorrow. It will be a close battle".
