08.Aug - DAY 7: Umuarama (PR) - Foz do Iguaçu (PR)
FINAL DAY

Liason: 199 km
Stage: 111 km
Final Liason: 30 km
Total: 340 km

Brazil’s Rally dos Sertões came to its finish this Saturday afternoon after a 111-km stage between Umuarama and Foz do Iguaçu, right on the triple border between Brazil, Paraguay and Argentina. The overall winner was Toyota’s Reinaldo Varela and Gustavo Gugelmin, but the spotlights of the country’s major off-road competition turned to the two Vedacit-yellow livered Ford Rangers Dakar V8 4x4 run by X Rally Team/NWM Motorsports.

The Baumgart brothers overcame several obstacles to then show staggering paces from second day on. Cristian Baumgart and Beco Andreotti won three of the seven stages to finish third overall. Marcos and his co-driver Kleber Cincea grew even more in the competition and were real title contenders, finishing second to Varela/Gugelmin.

"It is our second year driving this T1 FIA machines, both with NWM Ford Rangers. Our goal was to fight for the title, and in a certain way we did, but some factors got on our way, so we couldn’t be further ahead. Even though, we finished a place higher than last year, and any project like this requires some time. We were better this year, and in 2016 we have nowhere to go but up", said Cristian.

"I can say we’ve reached a positive conclusion. (Reinaldo) Varela drove his finest and he was a monster - in a good way - behind the wheel and used all his experience to clinch the title he deserved so much last year and didn’t win. From our side, we were fast, our car was incredibly reliable and we’ve shown our speed. The team once again were fantastic", highlighted Marcos.

Neil Woolridge and his sons Lance and Gareth, along with a team of technicians and engineers came to Brazil to follow the action and to help X Rally Team to find the best setup to the Ford Rangers. Ford Performance Team engineer Celso Duarte gave his racing backup and experience to help the team further ahead.
