After a tough first day, the Sertões did not made it easy for the competitors. Drivers and co-drivers had to face the first parto f the marathon stage with a 248-km stage between Goianésia and Santa Terezinha de Goiás. Cristian Baumgart and Beco Andreotti kept the same pace to win for the second day in a row and build an overall lead among the T1 FIA cars.
The NWM/X Rally Team Ford Ranger V8 4x4 was 1min04secs faster in the stage than Spinelli/Haddad’s Mini. The result made it possible for Cristian and Beco to finish the day with a 9min32secs gap over Sylvio de Barros/Rafael Capoani’s Mini.
“Two stages, two victories. The car is behaving perfectly, so is Beco’s navigation. We have to keep the pace and continue like this”, says Baumgart. The duo literally opened the way through the lead: they had to open five farm gates in the way. “On the other hand, today’s stage was much better to drive than yesterday’s. It has been a good begining. Let’s keep it that way in the coming days”, highlights Andreotti.
The #301 Ford Ranger of the reigning Sertões champions were completely revised the night before the marathon stage, where the competitors cannot have any kind of mechanical assistance from the team. The result highlights the work of the squad in making the car race-ready and perfect through demanding 248 kilometers.
“Not only for the marathon. We have to make sure the cari s 200% ready. This is why the car got to the end pratically intact. The team, Cristian and Beco are delivering a great job. The strategy is to keep the focus as we were hunting the lead – not keeping it”, says Neil Woolridge.
According to the NWM founder and diretor highlights the strengh of the Ford Ranger V8 4x4 built in Pietermaritzburg, South Africa. “Cristian and Beco had to use the front of the car to open five farm gates today, so the front bodywork was a little damaged – nothing that could stop them, so the next day, when the team can put their hands on the car, it will be once again ready. We just have to keep the concentration”, he ends.
This Tuesday, competitors face a 297-km stretch between Santa Terezinha de Goiás and Aruanã, in a total of 306 kilometers.
