X Rally Team, a Brazilian rally team from São Paulo, have confirmed its participation in the 2019 Dakar Rally. The ASO has announced this Friday (May 18th) that the 41st edition will make a giant loop rally-route entirely in Peru from January 6th to 17th, with the start and finish line in Lima.

The team run by the Baumgart brothers Cristian and Marcos will race two Ford Rangers V8 4x4 prepared by South Africa’s Neil Woolridge Motorsport, in a partnership that extends since 2014 and gave the team two titles in the Rally dos Sertões.

“For us it is an imense challenge, which we would not go for if we were not prepared. The team increased their professionalism and structure in the past years, and I think that our participation in the Dakar will confirm the current fase of the team”, highlights Beco Andreotti, team principal and long-time co-driver for Cristian Baumgart – the duo has won the past two Sertões editions.

Since the team started to race the Ford Rangers V8 4x4, the partnership X Rally Team have sustained with South Africa’s Neil Woolridge Motorsports in 2014 has worked very well. The Brazilian organization also started to build their own T1 FIA-class Ford Ranger V8 4x4 prototypes to sell or rent for drivers to compete in the Dakar or in the FIA World Cross Country Championship rounds.

“We have been working hard on the team’s restructuring and develpment. By that, we think that this is a good moment for us to start our biggest journey so far”, states Cristian Baumgart, who will take part on the most grueling rally for the first time.

His brother Marcos has a previous experience in the Dakar. Alongside his co-driver Kleber Cincea, Baumgart took part in the 2013 edition of the Dakar, having retired for the race after an accident on the sixth day of competition. “The Dakar is really tough. It demans a lot of preparation and attention from everyone in the team: drivers, co-drivers, mechanics, engineers, team staff, everyone. The attention to detail must be the highest, because the route is unforgiving itself and no mistake can be afforded”, says Marcos.
