Guilherme Samaia continues his busy schedule the first half of July with a visit to the Hungaroring, which hosts FIA Formula 2 Championship’s Round 3 this weekend. After two doubleheaders at Red Bull Ring, Campos Racing driver is ready for a completely new challenge on Hungarian soil with more closely-fought action to come. Samaia will be driving his Campos Racing-run Dallara F2 2018 car in which will be the third consecutive racing weekend of the main Formula 1 feeder series.
The 23-year old has vastly improved his experience in the FIA Formula 2 Championship after just two weekends. Samaia completed four solid races and always made it to the finish. Considering he has previously competed on the Hungaroring in the lower Formulae, his goal is to make another step forward in his cornering performance.
“Expectations for this next weekend is to make another step forward and do as many miles as I can. My goal is continue my learning process with the new tires and the car. Hungaroring is a track in which I already competed once in 2018. It isn’t a super experience but it will help me definitely. I hope to do my best and develop the car as much as I can. It’s a technical track in which qualifying is crucial because overtaking is extremely tough. But we already know how tires work, so optimistically we will be able to make another step forward”, said Guilherme.
Hungaroring features very different characteristics in comparison to Red Bull Ring. Despite the forecast isn’t predicting the usual hot temperatures, the Hungarian circuit is always extremely demanding for drivers and cars as there is no time to relax on the short straights. Described as “Monaco without the walls”, it is very important to take a front grid position due to overtaking is tricky with a narrow racing line. Teams are forced to use high downforce settings but at the same time mechanical grip is equally important. In contrast tire wear and degradation is quite low.
Free practice and qualifying sessions take place on Friday at 12.55 and 17.00 respectively. Saturday’s feature race is scheduled at 16.45 with Sunday’s sprint race getting underway at 11.10. All times are CET. Both races are broadcast live on Formula 1’s YouTube channel.
