Mick Schumacher and Callum Ilott were the winners in the FIA Formula 2 round 8 last weekend in the fast circuit of Monza, in Italy. Brazilian Guilherme Samaia scored his best result in his debut season for Campos Racing with a 14th place at the Sprint race on Sunday.
Samaia, as it has gone for him at Spa-Francorchamps two weeks ago, started the weekend with two major setbacks: his engine blew during free practice and the Campos Racing team had done a great job in time to put the Brazilian back on track for qualifying, but a red flag when he started his flying lap put his plans to a halt.
“It was one of those weekends. But the team worked really well. The problem was that, when I finally hit the track, it was with the qualifying setup, which is very different to the one we use for the races”, he said. “So, when the race started, I was in the dark regarding the behaviour of the car, but fortunatelly, with the help of the team, I started to put on some good pace”, he said.
Guilherme finished the feature race in 21st, but was 14th on Sunday. “Our pace, especially in the beginning of the race, was much stronger. Halfway through the race the pace decreased a little bit, but that’s something we will work to solve for the next races”, said the rookie Brazilian.
Round nine of the FIA Formula 2 Championship will be held at Mugello, Italy, next weekend.
