Campos Racing heads to Russia for the tenth and antepenultimate round of the 2020 FIA Formula 2 Championship season, which takes place at Sochi Autodrom by the Black Sea. Despite the Russian venue is a relatively recent addition on the calendar – 2014 being the first year during the GP2 Series days–, it has become one of the most beloved race tracks for drivers, teams and fans.

Brazilian Guilherme Samaia is making his Formula 2 season debut and continues making progress despite most circuits on the calendar are a step into the unknown for him. Samaia will get a new opportunity to continue gaining experience at Sochi, in which will be the very last event in Europe before the double-header at Bahrain in late November and December.

“The team seem to have found the source of the problems we’ve had at Spa, Monza and Mugello, and all I can hope for is a trouble-free weekend”, says the Brazilian. “Sochi features a very technical track, with quite long straights, but some tight corners”, he continues.

The 5.848-kilometer circuit is the fourth-longest on the calendar with its layout built around the Sochi Olympic Park. The surface is smooth and non-abrasive and tire wear and degradation should not be an issue unlike some previous rounds. The most challenging corner is Turn 3, a multi-apex left-hander resembling the Turn 8 at Istanbul Park. Mild temperatures are common at Sochi at this time of the year.

Free practice and qualifying sessions take place on Friday at 08.35 and 13.00 respectively. Saturday’s feature race is scheduled at 09.15 with Sunday’s sprint race getting underway at 09.55. All times are CET.
